Athanassios Tsipis



Dr. Athanasios Tsipis received in 2015 his B.Sc. in Informatics with a specialization in the field of “Information Systems” from the Dept. of Informatics of the Ionian University (IU), Greece. Two years later, in February 2017, he received his M.Sc. in Informatics with honors in the scientific route of “Information Technology and Information Systems”, for which he was awarded a full tuition-free scholarship for academic excellence. In January 2021, Athanasios completed his doctoral studies, receiving his Ph.D. in Informatics with honors at the aforementioned Department. His Ph.D. dissertation is entitled “Network Resource Optimization in Cloud Computing Environments”. As a Ph.D. student, Athanasios was employed at the Directorate of Informatics & Networks as well as the Dept. of Music Studies of the IU, and has contributed to the assistance and teaching of a number of courses for the Dept. of Informatics and the Dept. of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation. Since 2015 and to this day, Athanasios is a researcher at the “Networks, Multimedia and Security Systems Laboratory” (NMSLab). During this time, he has been involved in several R&D projects, funded by both EU and national resources, and has co-authored a series of similar research proposals and scientific publications. In 2021, he was with the Dept. of Informatics as an Academic Scholar in the subject area of "Data and Information Analysis". Currently, Dr. Tsipis serves as an Academic Scholar at the Dept. of Tourism, IU, in the subject area of "Applications and Services of New Technologies in Tourism", as well as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Dept. of Digital Media and Communication for the Masters Program "New Media of Communication and Digital Marketing" and at the Dept. of Environment for the Interdepartmental Masters Program "Preservation and Management of Cultural Heritage". He is a reviewer of numerous international conferences and scientific journals and a guest editor for special issues targeted at the intersection of networking and immersive systems. In 2021 he was the recipient of the Best Paper Award from the 26th IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC).
