Emmanouel Rovithis
Emmanouel Rovithis holds a PhD in Electronic Music Composition (Ionian University, Dept. of Music Studies). His thesis revolves around the design of Audio Games that aim to serve entertaining, educational and music-creative purposes. Prior to his PhD studies he had graduated from the German School of Athens, received a degree in German Literature (National Kapodistrian University of Athens), completed his studies in Classical Guitar, Harmony and Counterpoint (“Rhythmos” Conservatoir) and achieved his MA in Music Composition (Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge, UK).
He is currently employed as Laboratory Teaching Personnel at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University teaching subjects related to Art Didactics, Game Audio, Music Programming, Audio Technology, and Sound Synthesis. He is member of the Department's Special Program for the Certification of Pedagogical and Didactical Sufficiency. He has also taught Music Software Design at the cross-sectional Master’s program provided by the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts and the Dept. of Music Studies, supervised graduate and post-graduate dissertations, and contributed to the organisation of the institution’s annual Audiovisual Arts Festival.
As a post-doc researcher he has accomplished the European co-funded project "Augmented Reality Audio Games" focusing on Audio Game Interaction in Augmented Reality Environments, and is currently involved in two more ongoing post-doctoral research projects. His contribution typically includes concept, game and audio design, as well as research and dissemmination. Dr. Rovithis' research interests include Audio Games, Instructional Design, Gamification, Accessible Audio Interfaces and Data Sonification. He has published a number of articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings and participated in many international conferences. He has designed audio games and interactive installations that have been presented in festivals and conferences in Greece, Denmark, Canada and the U.K. and led workshops on behalf of institutions, such as the Ionian University, the Athens Megaron Friends of Music Society, the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation, the Mikro Polytechnio Foundation for the Arts, and the Panhellenic Association of the Blind.
Rovithis has strong background and ongoing presence in music composition and sound design for theatre and cinema. He has collaborated with various directors and choreographers including Mario Banushi, Georgia Mavragani, Makis Papadimitratos, Justine Goussot, Esther Andre Gonzales, Kostas Zappas, Vicky Sachpazi, and many more. His works have been exhibited at prominent art venues and festivals, including the Experimental Stage of the National Theatre of Greece, the Athens Science Festival, the Ionian University Audiovisual Arts Festival, the Design Walk Festival, the Athens Digital Arts Festival, Babble’s Festival, and the Kettle’s Yard Gallery.
