Aikaterini Kontopanagou



Katerina Chr. Kontopanagou (Ekaterini-Konstantina) (Ph.D., M.Sc., B.Sc.) is a graduate of the Department of History and Archaeology of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina, Greece. She holds an M.Sc. in the area of Byzantine archaeology and art from the same university. Part of her postgraduate studies took place in Padova and Venice. She also received her Ph.D. from the same university, focusing on the development of the last phase of post-Byzantine painting. Between 2011 and 2020, she has been teaching various courses on archaeology and art at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Ioannina, both undergraduate and postgraduate. Currently, she teaches courses on art, cultural heritage, and museology at the Department of Archives, Library Science, and Museology of the Ionian University, Greece, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She also teaches at the Hellenic Open University, Greece, a course about Greek culture.

She has participated in various research programs to document and present cultural objects in collaboration with academic and research institutions. Her scholarly interests revolve around Byzantine and post-Byzantine iconography, the fusing of Byzantine and Western artistic in- fluences in post-Byzantine painting, and the presentation of the Byzantine cultural heritage through the first-hand study of archaeological evidence, works of art, and archival material.  She has published two monographs regarding Post-Byzantine art and cultural heritage.
